The emotion of feeding
Food nourishes. For the unborn child the world of food is introduced by the mother. Yes, in the womb itself. I remember my son kicking me inside during second quarter of pregnancy, specially when I ate pakodas. I commonly thought that my dear child would be a real foodie. Before seeing the light of the big wide world , I presumed his food choices. I even thought of nicknaming him "Pakoda".
In my experience, I have encountered numerous instances when stray animals have been loveingly and affectionately fed by passersby. The feeders are high on emotions keeping to the fact that they are nurturing innocent, young, speechless animals who cannot speak for themselves. The animal feeders casually ignore the status of animals as "animals", who can bark, bite, kick, push and what not.
The river of emotions while feeding is more swift when they nurture the new borns.
About the poor and hungry humans the feeding process takes many dimensions.
Though hungry, but they are not voiceless.
Humanity and compassion wins them food. In India, most worship places have a feeding provision for the poor and hungry. Funds for food are always managed by pockets but emotions.
Mass feeding in religious places, especially during festivals and some special days involves the "seva bhav" of hundreds all accross. Technically, it is also referred to as " lunger seva". There is unmatched high spirit while feeding and serving the hungry. It is a perfect expression of compassion and gratitude.
Shifting from the emotion of feeding the underprivileged to the friends who are bursting with love and affection. Partying accompanied with eating and drinking is a significant portrayal of emotional burst. Phrase that can't be missed, "dil ka rasta, pet se ho kar guzarta hain".
Special recipes on special requests become everyone's favourite. Feeding loved ones adds to happy moments.
But what , if the food is being cooked for an unwanted guest or someone who is disliked? The flavour changes. Love diminishes. The feeding process takes a sour twist. For sure the emotional dip, takes a toll on taste as well as the relation.
Has the emotion of feeding, got anything to do with our pocket or is it just the heart that matters?
I think, when emotions are high, the pocket doesn't matter much. Even the simple short serving can do wonders.
Daily cooking in household kitchens as well as the commercial setups , the energy associated with every bite, has a deep and lasting impact.
An angry, irritated cook can spoil it all, if happy, contended he can bring wonders and can't forget the age old proverb, " too many cooks spoil the broth".
